PCOS Symptoms & Tracking
Tracking PCOS symptoms is key to faster diagnosis and better treatment, as symptoms vary from person to person. Keeping a detailed symptom log helps your doctor understand your condition better.
Many PCOS symptoms overlap with other conditions and can be mild to severe, varying from woman to woman. Speak with your doctor if you have any of these symptoms.
Irregular or absent periods
Excess hair growth (hirsutism), often on the face, chest, back, or buttocks
Persistent low mood, low motivation, or feelings of low self-esteem
Difficulty getting pregnant
Weight gain that’s not linked to change in diet and is hard to lose
Oily skin or acne
Thinning hair on the head
Many women experience a unique combination of these symptoms however less common symptoms include;
Snoring
Sexual problems
Resistance to insulin, making you extremely tired, overly hungry (especially for sugary foods) or lacking in concentration. It can also factor in fertility, acne, scalp hair loss and increased hair growth. You may notice dark patches or tags on your skin.
Irregular eating behaviours which can include an eating disorder
A diagnosis of any of the following could also indicate PCOS:
High cholesterol and high blood pressure
Non alcoholic fatty liver disease
Cardiovascular disease
Type 2 diabetes
Endometrial cancer
There is also a longer term risk of the developing the above conditions as a result of PCOS.
Its important to understand that you can have PCOS and other conditions like Endometriosis at the same time.
So if you have other symptoms, not listed here, and something just doesn’t feel right, you’re not imagining it and you should speak to a doctor.
Tracking
If you do one thing for your PCOS journey, make it symptom tracking. It helps you understand your body more effectively, get taken seriously by doctors and can support diagnosis and treatment management.
Track daily for at least 2 months (covering 2 cycles).
Log how symptoms like hair changes, fatigue, or mood changes affect your day.
Watch your menstrual cycle — irregularity is a key PCOS sign.
